Dear Parents:

Next week we are having our annual canned food drive.  Students who wish to participate can bring thier items to their classroom at the start of the day. Each day we will gather and record items per class.  The lower grade and upper grade class that collects the most items will be awarded a donut party.  Please make sure all items donated have not expired.  Items that are in glass need to be avoided and no perishable food is accepted.

Here are a few things to think about with the food drive:

1. Supports Needs in the School Community
Provides food for students and families in the school who may be facing food insecurity.
Strengthens the bond within the school community by helping classmates and neighbors in need.

2. Assists Local Food Banks
Supplies local food banks with essential items to distribute to the broader community.
Helps food banks prepare for increased demand during holidays or challenging economic times.

3. Teaches the Value of Service
Encourages students to practice compassion, generosity, and social responsibility.
Demonstrates the importance of giving back to the community and helping others.

4. Fosters Teamwork and School Spirit
Brings students, staff, and families together to work toward a common goal.
Builds a sense of accomplishment and pride in contributing to a collective effort.

Dear Parents,

This is from our PTA. We want to take a moment to express a heartfelt thank you for your support and participation in our CougarFest fundraiser event. It was a success thanks to your generosity.

From the initial count minus expenses the PTA was able to achieve the goal. They will have exact total to present at the next general PTA meeting. This will be at the school on October 8th at 1pm.

We acknowledge and express gratitude to our wonderful CougarFest Committee, led by Rachel Adams. They each gave so generously of their time and energy to make CougarFest possible and we appreciate their hard work and enthusiasm.

The T-Shirt orders are now completed. We started distribution of the shirts today. The rest of the shirts will be sent home on Monday.

Dear Parents,
Recently we have seen a trend where TikTok is challenging students to do inappropriate things and film it. This is a disturbing part of this social media platform. TikTok poses several dangers to youth, including exposure to inappropriate content, cyberbully, and privacy concerns. The platform’s algorithm often promotes viral trends that can encourage risky behaviors, while constant exposure to unrealistic standards of beauty and success may harm mental health. Additionally, the addictive nature of short, fast-paced videos can lead to excessive screen time, reducing face-to-face social interactions and affecting academic performance. Privacy risks are also significant, as personal data may be collected and used without full understanding or consent. Please take a moment and look on your child’s phone to see if this app is on their phone and if it is active. If it is on the phone at the very least take some time to talk with your child about the harm social media can present. We want our children to be safe in all aspects of life. Social media can be a great resource, but if left un-monitored can lead to problems that are easily avoidable.

The T-Shirt orders are now completed. The orders will be delivered on September 23.

Sept 16 Acadience Testing 4th – 6th
The information we gather from this reading assessment helps our teachers to guide their instruction and better serve
your children. A few tips to help with any assessment is to have your child go to bed the night before at a reasonable
hour, make sure they have a good breakfast and encourage them to try their best.

Safety tips for children being dropped off by car
• Wait for the car to come to a complete stop before attempting to load or unload.
• Children should always enter and exit the car from the sidewalk side, not from the street side of the car.
• Wait for the car to come to come to a complete stop before leaving the sidewalk.
• Do not run on the sidewalk next to the cars.
Safety tips for children near buses
• When you get off, take five giant steps away from the bus, out of the danger zone.
• Cross in front of the bus, and make sure you maintain eye contact with the driver.
• Never go back for anything and never bend down near or under the bus.

Safety tips for parents
• Do not use your cell phones in the drop off/pick up zone. This is a distraction we do not need while picking up children.
• Be patient of other drivers. A child’s safety is far more important than saving a few seconds.
• Watch for children. They are small and easily can be hidden in the cars blind spot.
• Only drop your kids off when your car arrives at the designated yellow painted drop off zone.
• Pull as far up as possible in the drop off zone.
• Do not wave for your kids to cross the drop off zone driving area. Only use the crosswalks with an adult present.

Dear Parents,

This first week has been wonderful to see how excited our students and teachers are. The halls are again filled with laughter and energy. Thank you for entrusting your kids to us for this school year. We are look-
ing forward to another fantastic year at Cascade!

“Cascade’s Parent Teacher Association is currently accepting new members. There are many ways to be involved in PTA, even if you work full time or have a busy schedule. The PTA is the largest and oldest advocacy group for students and educators in the nation. The PTA sponsors the extra programs and events that enhance your child’s education and well-being.

Memberships are currently $5 but will increase to $10 in September so join now! We are also currently giving away free Chick fil-a, Texas Roadhouse or Tagg Car Wash vouchers with every membership purchase while supplies last. This year every student in the district must have a parent sign up on Skyward in order for the student to use any district supported device. Attached to this email is an explanation on how to do this. For those needing
some assistance with this process we will have Chromebooks set up in the library during the school hours on Friday, August 16th.

Attached to this page is information on our drop off pick up zones. The first couple of weeks these zones can be a little congested. If we all follow the suggested guidelines of our zones the pickup drop off areas run much smoother. The biggest rule for a safe zone is to slow down and always be on the lookout for kids.

Last year we had several parents organize a bike bus. This was a successful way for kids and families to enjoy the time they had in getting to and from school.

We currently have 70 families that have signed up at Smith’s food for donations. Smiths will donate a portion of your purchase to Cascade. If you shop at Smiths please consider signing up for this program. https://www.smithsfoodanddrug.com/i/community/smiths-inspiring-donations

Dear Parents,

Welcome back to another great year at Cascade Elementary School! We are excited to see everyone on Tuesday during our Open House (3:30-5:30) and again on the first day of school on Thursday!

Our Cascade Open House will be on Tuesday, August 13, from 3:30-5:30. This will be an open house style event. Teachers will be in their rooms and the PTA will be available to sign up and participate in this organization.

The first day of school for kindergarten – sixth grade is on Thursday, August 15th. School starts at 8:00 am and is over for the day at 2:15 pm.

This year every student in the district must have a parent sign up on Skyward in order for the student to use any district supported device. Attached to this email is an explanation on how to do this. We will have our computer lab open on the open house to assist those who have questions.

On the first day of school from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm we are hosting the district fingerprinting services. To make this go smoother attached is information on how to pre-register. This service is good for as long as you have kids in Alpine. It is free as well.

We are finalizing the class supply request lists. These are now posted on our web-page and facebook.
