We are continuing to encourage all to be courteous in the drop off and pick up zones. An easy way to do this is to not make a left hand turn from 200 North to 800 East. By only turning right during pick up time the line will move much faster

Dear Parents,

This first week has been wonderful to see how excited our students and teachers are. The halls are again filled with laughter and energy. Thank you for entrusting your kids to us for this school year. We are look-
ing forward to another fantastic year at Cascade!

“Cascade’s Parent Teacher Association is currently accepting new members. There are many ways to be involved in PTA, even if you work full time or have a busy schedule. The PTA is the largest and oldest advocacy group for students and educators in the nation. We advocate on behalf of children and educators at the local, state and national levels, provide nationally recognized programs and access to resources within our Cascade community. The PTA sponsors the extra programs and events that enhance your child’s education and well-being.

A PTA membership gives you a membership card, the ability to vote on PTA initiatives, volunteer opportunities, the ability to apply for PTA grants and scholarships and access to our monthly newsletter. Memberships are currently $5 but will increase to $10 in September so join now! We are also currently giving away free Chick fil-a, Texas Roadhouse or Tagg Car Wash vouchers with every membership purchase while supplies last. You can redeem this with Keenan White at a PTA meeting. It’s like getting your membership for free! This year every student in the district must have a parent sign up on Skyward in order for the student to use any district supported device. Attached to this email is an explanation on how to do this. For those needing
some assistance with this process we will have Chromebooks set up in the library during the school hours on Friday, August 16th.

Attached to this page is information on our drop off pick up zones. The first couple of weeks these zones can be a little congested. If we all follow the suggested guidelines of our zones the pickup drop off areas run much smoother. The biggest rule for a safe zone is to slow down and always be on the lookout for kids.

Last year we had several parents organize a bike bus. This was a successful way for kids and families to enjoy the time they had in getting to and from school.

We currently have 70 families that have signed up at Smith’s food for donations. Smiths will donate a portion of your purchase to Cascade. If you shop at Smiths please consider signing up for this program. https://www.smithsfoodanddrug.com/i/community/smiths-inspiring-donations

Dear Parents,

Welcome back to another great year at Cascade Elementary School! We are excited to see everyone on Tuesday during our Open House (3:30-5:30) and again on the first day of school on Thursday!

Our Cascade Open House will be on Tuesday, August 13, from 3:30-5:30. This will be an open house style event. Teachers will be in their rooms and the PTA will be available to sign up and participate in this organization.

The first day of school for kindergarten – sixth grade is on Thursday, August 15th. School starts at 8:00 am and is over for the day at 2:15 pm.

This year every student in the district must have a parent sign up on Skyward in order for the student to use any district supported device. Attached to this email is an explanation on how to do this. We will have our computer lab open on the open house to assist those who have questions.

On the first day of school from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm we are hosting the district fingerprinting services. To make this go smoother attached is information on how to pre-register. This service is good for as long as you have kids in Alpine. It is free as well.

We are finalizing the class supply request lists. These are now posted on our web-page and facebook.

Parents,

We hope that everyone has a wonderful Spring Break! During this time people will be travelling to fun destinations, staying at home with family or just taking some time to relax. One suggestion that we have during this week is to spend some time each day reading. Read with your kids or just read to them. Some of the benefits of reading during spring break are there is more time to read, life is a little more relaxed during this time, any time spent reading is helping your child to be lifelong learners.

Parents,
Some fun facts from our Math and Art Night. We handed out over 1,000 slices of pizza, close to 1,200 cookies, we gave out 300 individual math games, fixed close to 200 bikes and handed out 341 books to kids. During the evening thousands of pieces of art were hanging in the halls for kids and parents to enjoy. Thank you for all of your support during this event.

Our 5th grade will be taking the end of year Utah State writing assessment this week. When kids have had a good nights sleep and have eaten a good breakfast they will be happier in during the day. Breakfast time is a great time to talk about how they hope the day will go. This is a great time to reassure them to just try their best.

Message from the Teacher Appreciation Week committee:
We will be able to express our gratitude for our teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week on April 22-26. To make the week unique, we plan a series of activities (more to come soon), but one of the highlights will be a raffle where teachers can win prizes! This is where we need your help. If you are able, please consider donating items from your businesses or personal resources to contribute to our raffle prizes. It could be a gift card, a voucher for a free service, or any other item you think would make a great prize. Your contribution would be greatly appreciated!
If you can donate, please get in touch with Bri Lawyer by April 10th at 801-669-7466 or [email protected].

Message from our Battle of the Books Committee:
Even though the Battle of the Books battles are over, we hope to continue to encourage students to read the Battle of the Books novels. We will celebrate the students’ continued effort with an extra recess for each student who reads at least 5 books from their assigned list. 3rd and 4th graders will be rewarded with an extra recess on May 7th, 5th and 6th graders on May 9th.
To earn the extra recess, students need to have the following completed by May 1st:
1) Be a 3rd – 6th grader
2) Read 5 or more Battle of the Books novels from your grade’s list.
3) Fill out a slip for each book and turn it in to Mrs. Roundy.
Past participation in the Battle of the Books battles is NOT required to earn the extra recess.
Also, if you have not seen the Battle of the Books Board in the library or on our All 20 Club wall, you should check it out. It has been a fun way to recognize each student for their hard work!
Happy Reading!
